Initiative overview

The Government strengthens AI skills among professionals and students.AI is increasingly affecting everyday life. Professionals need up and reskilling in AI. Therefore, seven higher education institutions have been assigned to develop short courses with a focus on AI.According to the AI Commission, Sweden is lagging behind internationally in the field of AI, despite the fact that there is good basic education on innovation. AI will affect everyday life more in the future, and professional roles may change, among other things, because of increased automation. This means that those who work as, for example, nurses, teachers, or engineers may need to supplement their previous education to better meet the requirements for competence that are set because of the development of AI.Knowledge about AI among professionals can be increased through short, skill-developing courses, among other things. The Government is therefore investing so that seven higher education institutions can develop courses with a focus on AI for professionals in various sectors.Higher education institutions must report on the development of AI in education. Sweden's students need to be well prepared for future professional life and understand the opportunities and challenges of AI tools. Therefore, the higher education institutions are tasked with reporting on how they work with the development of the educational offerings regarding AI, and efforts to integrate AI elements in the courses where it is relevant. The assignment is in accordance with the recommendations of the AI Commission.
