Initiative overview
The UK Compute Roadmap outlines the government’s plan to significantly expand national high-performance computing and AI-optimised infrastructure over the coming decade. The roadmap includes major investments in supercomputers, AI-specific compute clusters, and the scaling of the UK AI Research Resource (AIRR). The strategy aims to address growing demand for computational power from universities, startups, and industry by increasing national compute capacity and improving access mechanisms. It also focuses on strengthening collaboration between public research institutions, technology companies, and innovation clusters. The roadmap supports frontier AI research, advanced model training, and large-scale experimentation. It also ensures that SMEs and startups can access advanced computing resources through national programmes and compute allocation mechanisms.
