Initiative overview

The AI Governance Center (AIGC) was established to address the growing risks and ethical challenges associated with AI adoption in Thailand while positioning the country as a leader in AI governance. With AI becoming integral to various sectors, issues such as bias, privacy risks, and transparency gaps require robust governance. AIGC leverages this opportunity by developing comprehensive guidelines, risk assessment tools, and policy frameworks to ensure responsible and sustainable AI deployment. Additionally, it strengthens Thailand's alignment with global AI governance standards, facilitating international cooperation and investment. The initiative's key objectives include developing AI governance guidelines and toolkits, fostering AI ethics awareness, and enhancing testing frameworks to mitigate AI-related risks. By engaging policymakers, businesses, and researchers, AIGC ensures practical implementation of responsible AI principles. It has also introduced AI ethics education through training programs such as the AI Executive Program (AIX), AI Change Agent Program (AICA) and knowledge sharing, reaching over 20,000 participants in 2024. International collaboration is another priority, with Thailand serving as a key contributor to OECD AI governance initiatives and ASEAN AI ethics frameworks, reinforcing its regional and global leadership.Looking ahead, AIGC will continue to expand its impact by institutionalizing AI governance across sectors. It is set to co-host the UNESCO Global Forum on the Ethics of AI 2025, further elevating Thailand's presence in AI policy discussions. The AI Sandbox, which currently focuses on LLM testing, may evolve to encompass broader AI applications, enhancing regulatory preparedness. Scaling AI governance efforts across industries through partnerships with both public and private organizations will be crucial. Institutionalizing AI governance frameworks through regulatory integration and industry-specific adaptation will ensure long-term sustainability.Since its inception, AIGC has progressed from research and policy development to implementation and global advocacy. Early efforts focused on establishing AI governance principles, while recent initiatives emphasize practical application, such as the AI Readiness Scan (AIRS) and AI Risk Assessment tools. AIGC's expanding network of domestic and international stakeholders enables ongoing refinement of governance models, ensuring they remain relevant amid rapid AI advancements. As AI continues to evolve, AIGC's role in shaping responsible AI adoption will strengthen, ensuring Thailand remains at the forefront of ethical and sustainable AI governance.
