Initiative overview
The Competitiveness and Innovation in Enterprises Programme (PCIE) is a key initiative supporting the digital transformation and innovation capacity of Bulgarian enterprises. The programme addresses the challenges faced by companies in adopting advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI) and other Industry 4.0 solutions, which are critical for maintaining competitiveness in an increasingly digital and global market.
Priority 1 of PCIE focuses on implementing the strategic objectives set out in the Innovation Strategy for Smart Specialisation (ISSS), particularly those that strengthen innovation ecosystems and support enterprise digitalisation. Within this framework, the programme provides grants and financial instruments to enterprises seeking to develop and deploy AI technologies, advanced automation, and other digital innovations.
The initiative targets a broad range of organisations, from start-ups to established companies, helping them access funding, technical expertise, and guidance needed to successfully implement AI and Industry 4.0 solutions. By doing so, it encourages technological modernisation, process optimisation, and enhanced productivity across Bulgarian industries.
