The Bulgarian government approved on 16 December 2020 its national AI strategic document, while also preparing specific policy reports focusing on education, training, and research.

Initiative overview
The Concept offers a comprehensive vision for the development and use of AI in Bulgaria. It is based on the strategic and programming documents of the European Commission, which consider AI as one of the main drivers of digital transformation in Europe and a significant key factor in ensuring the competitiveness of the European economy and a high quality of life.The main prerequisites and challenges for the development of AI in Bulgaria for the period 2020-2030 are presented. An overview of existing strategies and projects for the development of Bulgaria in the coming years is made. Objectives:To focus efforts on the development and implementation of AI systems by creating research, expert, business and management capacity, supporting the co-ordination of measures and activities set as a priority in relevant national strategic documents.To provide modern communications and scientific infrastructure for AI development and deployment.To develop an advanced system for education and lifelong learning in AI areas.To strengthen and and develop the capacity for research and technology transfer in the field of AI and related technologies.To unlock the potential of data as a raw material for AI development.To introduce AI based innovation in key sectors, andTo build trust in AI and to develop regulatory framework for the development and implementation of reliable AI in line with established legal and ethical principles within the EU
