The Ministry for Education, Sport, Youth, Research, and Innovation is working to draft a framework for responsible generative AI in public administration. The goal is to set rules for accountability, transparency, security, and recourse in AI-supported decision making. The Directorate for Digital Literacy & Transversal Skills (DDLTS) aligns its work with both EU and UNESCO guidance on AI in education.

An AI-powered imaging solution that generates advanced and perfusion scans to support faster and more accurate diagnoses. RapidAI is used in the Medical Imaging departments of Mater Dei and Gozo General Hospital, particularly for stroke and aneurysm treatment.

The Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) project in Malta uses AI-driven tools to reduce traffic congestion and improve urban mobility. It optimises traffic re-routing, road closures, and low-traffic zones. The initiative also promotes multi-modal transport for seamless travel.

The Digital Technologies Programme led by Xjenza Malta (XM) supports capacity-building efforts related to AI, digital trust, knowledge and data, representation and analysis, technology for sustainability, quantum computing and other emerging technologies. The capacity-building efforts are aimed at researchers, entrepreneurs, and organisations involved in these emerging technologies.

AI training is available for all healthcare professionals through the Institute of Public Services. The curriculum includes the "Artificial Intelligence Introduction" module, which covers fundamental AI concepts and their applications in healthcare. Additionally, healthcare professionals have the opportunity to attend various AI and healthcare courses and receive refunds of up to EUR 1 165 per year.

The Societal Impact of Pain (SIP) Malta Platform launched the ‘To Be Seen and To Be Heard Patient Empowerment project. This initiative, supported by the Malta Health Network, aims to empower patients by promoting self-management, enhancing patient-professional communication, and ensuring that patients are actively involved in their healthcare decisions.

The Malta Chips Competence Centre is a strategic initiative to strengthen Malta's semiconductor ecosystem. Spearheaded by Malta Enterprise in collaboration with the University of Malta, MCAST, MDIA and Silicon Catalyst. The Centre will have the objective to spur innovation and develop new talent. The Centre will also provide access to technical expertise and experimentation in the area of semiconductors targeted primarily for SMEs and startups.

The Smart & Sustainable Investment Grant provides business funding to support investments that lead to more sustainable processes, enhancing the competitiveness of enterprises through the optimisation of resource use in their activities. This includes initiatives such as sustainable digitisation. The service is offered by the DiHubMT.
