Program to ensure better utilisation of health data for secondary use, including through a health data analysis platform
Initiative overview
Norway has several health registries and other sources to health data for secondary use - a unique source of knowledge about the populations health and the quality of health care services in Norway. Today, the access to our health data is time consuming and costly. A better utilisation of the health data for research, quality improvement, management, innovation and business development can bring great benefits to the society. Health analysis data platform:Access to health data for research and innovation is complicated and time consuming. (on average it takes 17 months to get access to data from more than one register). The program will establish the Health analysis data platform as a secure single entry point, aiming to coordinate register data (population based and clinical) with other relevant data sources (biobanks, cohorts, researcher data etc).The initiative has the following objectives:To increase the utilisation of health data for secondary use in research, quality improvement, management, innovation and business development by introducing a Health analysis data platform, and a national permit authority (Health data service).
