Initiative overview
The InvestEU Guarantee Programme is a major financial initiative designed to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across Europe, including Bulgaria, in pursuing innovation and digital transformation. The programme addresses a critical challenge faced by many Bulgarian companies — limited access to financing for high-risk, technology-driven projects, including those involving artificial intelligence (AI).
Under the InvestEU framework, Bulgarian businesses can access loans of up to EUR 2 million to develop and implement projects that integrate innovative and digital technologies. By providing a financial guarantee, the programme helps reduce investment risks for lenders, making it easier for companies to secure funding for activities that advance technological capacity and competitiveness.
A key focus of the initiative is to promote the adoption of AI technologies in business operations, from process automation and data analytics to the creation of AI-based products and services. The InvestEU Guarantee Programme thus supports Bulgaria’s broader goals of digitalisation and innovation, contributing to the development of a resilient and future-ready business ecosystem.
