Initiative overview

In 2023, Hungary installed the Komondor HPC system at Debrecen University as part of its involvement with the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking, a European effort to boost supercomputing capabilities. This system addresses the growing need for powerful computing resources to support research and innovation, especially in areas like AI, data analysis, and complex simulations.

Komondor offers a peak performance of 6 PetaFlops, providing Hungarian universities, research centers, and small and medium-sized businesses with access to advanced computing power. This helps accelerate scientific discoveries, improve industrial innovation, and enhance competitiveness by enabling faster and more complex data processing.

Managed by the Governmental IT Development Agency (KIFÜ), Komondor brings together government, academia, and industry to share a valuable resource that benefits a wide user base. Looking forward, the system will expand alongside EuroHPC’s network of supercomputers, strengthening Hungary’s digital infrastructure and supporting larger, more collaborative research projects across Europe.
