Given the need to reinforce HPC capacities and adapt to generative AI developments, and building on consultation with representatives from industry and academia, Spain released an updated national AI strategy in May 2024.

Initiative overview
The strategy consists of three main axes:
- Strengthening key levers for AI development.
- Facilitating the expansion of AI in the public and private sectors, fostering innovation and cybersecurity.
- Developing transparent, responsible and humanistic AI.
The strategy is cross-sectoral, but there are specific implementation measures in the areas of healthcare, public administration, environment and industrial development. In addition, adoption of generative AI in the public administration is viewed as a means of fostering broader adoption.
