Initiative overview
Spain’s National Reference Centre for Semantic Resources (SNOMED CT), managed by the Ministry of Health, is designed to ensure semantic interoperability across the National Health System (SNS). The centre manages and distributes SNOMED CT clinical terminology, promoting its adoption and use within health information systems nationwide.
Main Functions:
- License Management: Administers SNOMED CT licenses for users in Spain.
- Content Distribution: Publishes and distributes both the official SNOMED International content and Spain-specific extensions, including reference sets and a Spanish-language lexicon.
- Support and Training: Provides official training on SNOMED CT and offers technical support and consultancy for SNS users.
- International Collaboration: Serves as Spain’s point of contact with SNOMED International and participates in working groups to develop and improve clinical terminology.
