The AI Assurance Innovation Fund is a £11 million initiative to support the development of innovative and novel AI assurance mechanisms.

Initiative overview

The AI Assurance Innovation Fund was announced in September 2025 as part of DSIT's Trusted Third-Party AI Assurance Roadmap, which sets out the UK Government's vision for a credible and scalable AI assurance market. The fund is designed to address the challenge that transformative AI will present novel risks requiring continuous innovation in assurance methods and tools. It will issue £11 million to support research, pilot projects, prototypes and novel assurance methodologies, with a focus on scalable and adaptive solutions for highly capable AI systems. The fund is focused on the eight industrial strategy sectors and will work alongside the AI Security Institute's existing efforts on advanced AI security risks. DSIT will also explore opportunities for the fund to support the UK's AI Adoption Hubs by providing funding to pilot innovative assurance solutions alongside cutting-edge technologies. The initiative is part of a broader roadmap that also includes professionalisation efforts and skills development and information sharing guidelines.
