The Public Administration Pillar of Italy’s National Strategy for AI (2024–2026) focuses on using AI to modernise public services. It aims to make administrative processes more efficient and improve the accessibility and quality of services for citizens and businesses. The strategy also promotes AI training and education for public sector employees.

Strengthening skills and attracting talents to develop an Artificial Intelligence ecosystem in Italy; increasing funding for advanced research in Artificial Intelligence; and incentivizing the adoption of Artificial Intelligence and its applications both in public administrations and in the private sector.

Italy's first comprehensive national AI law, entered into force 10 October 2025, establishing governance, sector-specific rules, and fundamental principles for AI use, and authorising up to EUR 1B in state-backed venture capital for AI, cybersecurity and telecommunications companies.

A ministerial voucher programme to subsidise the purchase/subscription of cloud and cybersecurity services by SMEs and self-employed persons (eligible products explicitly include cloud SaaS with integrated AI features such as productivity/ERP/CRM tools). The measure reduces infrastructure and security barriers for SMEs adopting AI-enabled software.

The Messina Urban Digital Twin (GDU) is an AI-enabled platform that integrates data from IoT sensors, administrative sources and urban systems to support decision-making and scenario simulation. It transforms fragmented urban data into a dynamic and interactive model of the city. The initiative aims to improve planning, resource management and public services through data-driven insights.
