Complex government documents may confuse citizens, making it difficult to access services such as pensions or benefits. This work uses GenAI to rewrite these texts in plain language, maintaining legal accuracy while increasing clarity. Focused on the Service Pages of Italy's National Institute of Social Security portal, which serves 45 million users, AI-generated versions received strong user preference over the original texts, enabling the Institute to communicate inclusively and at scale.

Citizens send questions to INPS through a web form on different topics. In the past, all messages were checked by contact centre operators at the first level and manually forwarded where necessary to back-office officials at the second level. As a result, most requests were processed twice and answers arrived later. The new system uses AI to automatically send each request to the correct level. This helps citizens receive faster replies and reduces unnecessary work for contact centre staff.

Formez PA's AI Pilot for CV Screening is an internal tool that helps Formez’ selection committees review CVs from candidates applying to become consultants for Formez PA's project activities. It uses natural language processing to identify skills and create a preliminary ranking based on job requirements, reducing manual workload for staff. Launched in May 2025, it addresses the sharp rise in internal applications via the inPA portal while keeping human judgement central to decisions.

Camilla is a generative AI virtual assistant that helps citizens access clear, up-to-date information on public recruitment competitions through the inPA Portal, Italy’s single gateway for public administration hiring. Developed by Formez PA with CSI Piemonte, it enhances access to notices, simplifies participation, and reduces the workload of staff managing assistance requests.

The initiative consists in the development of an AI-based chatbot capable of analysing aggregated statistical data. The first chatbot prototype was based on a monolithic assistant, but a multimodal agent is being designed with the support of our technical partner, Società Generale d’Informatica (SOGEI). Published by the Department for Digital Transformation and Agency for National Cybersecurity, the strategy provides guidelines for migrating public administration data to qualified cloud services. The National Social Security Institute (Istituto nazionale della previdenza sociale, INPS) pioneered AI adoption in Italian public administration by implementing machine learning algorithms in 2023. The system includes a generative AI-powered virtual assistant for portal users and automated communication processing. The implementation has doubled processing capacity from 3 million to 6 million official communications annually.

​The NQSTI is a consortium established to advance Italy's research and innovation in quantum science and technology. The institute brings together 20 Italian institutions, including research centres, universities, and enterprises, to conduct competitive and innovative research in this field. NQSTI aims to stimulate industrial innovation by providing a forum for transferring ideas and opportunities to companies.

The Italian quantum computing initiative is a key component of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP). This programme is designed to bolster Italy’s quantum computing capabilities by supporting the entire research and development spectrum—from fundamental research to technological applications and market deployment.

Italy is actively participating in the EU’s Important Project of Common European Interest (IPCEI) on Cloud Infrastructure and Services (CIS). This initiative aims to develop an interoperable, open-source cloud-to-edge ecosystem to support sectors like energy, health, and maritime. Italian companies such as TIM, Fincantieri, Engineering Ingegneria Informatica, Tiscali, and Reply are key contributors to this project.
