Italy’s Competence Centres Initiative, launched in 2023, is a national programme under the Industrial Digitalisation Competence Centres (ICDI) framework. It builds on the earlier Industry 4.0 strategy and seeks to ensure faster progress in both the digital and green transition.

The initiative establishes a network of eight public–private partnerships, each acting as a specialised hub for advanced technologies. Their focus spans AI, IoT, collaborative robotics, automation, big data analytics, blockchain, and cloud computing, providing companies—especially SMEs—with access to applied expertise, training, and pilot projects.
