The project aimed to create a comprehensive overview of all AI systems used in federal public administration in 2023. The survey data will help identify challenges and risks related to AI in the public sector. Over five months, 31 AI-related projects were identified across various ministries: 17 operational AI systems, 10 AI research projects, 3 chatbots, and 1 guideline for AI in public administration. This project also serves as preparatory work for the AI Map (KI-Landkarte) initiative.

Initiative overview

The initiative AI directory is a further development of the existing directory on AI systems in the Austrian federal administration based on a survey in 2023. The aim of this project is to create an interactive directory with productive, piloted and planned AI initiatives, projects and processes in the federal administration, clustered based on technology, degree of maturity, area of application, target group, etc.. An up-to-date overview of all AI projects, processes and initiatives will promote interministerial cooperation in the field of AI as well as the utilisation of cross-ministerial synergies, experience and best practices, while avoiding duplication of effort.
