The AI Expertise Center supports and guides the use of artificial intelligence within the Flemish government and local authorities to improve the efficiency, effectiveness and innovation of their (digital) services. The AI Expertise Center takes on the role within the Flanders Digital agency of providing the framework, supporting the knowledge sharing and stimulating the innovative application of AI in government.

Initiative overview

The AI Expertise Center supports and guides the use of artificial intelligence within the Flemish government and local authorities to improve the efficiency, effectiveness and innovation of their (digital) services. The activities of the AI Expertise Center focus on five pillars: (1) defining a long-term AI vision and strategy, (2) stimulating AI-driven innovation, (3) creating AI building blocks, (4) increasing the reliability of AI and (5) preparing people and organisations. The AI Expertise Center is now in a start-up phase, but will expand to become the center of excellence for the trustworthy use of AI in government. One of the expertise centers is the Flanders Digital Agency's AI Expertise Centre identifies civil servants’ needs for AI upskilling and reskilling. It supports public sector innovation by equipping civil servants to use AI for improved policymaking, operational efficiency, and service delivery (Digital Vlaanderen, 2024[78]).
