Initiative overview

Partly implemented through the National Plan for Language Technologies, which encompasses all initiatives related to developing language technologies and AI in Spanish and co-official languages, in particular:

  • Linguistic corpora will be developed made up of texts of different kinds (novels, plays, film scripts, press news, etc.), but also that consider singing, oral or sign language, including terminologies and the generation of a metasearch engine for terms as well as technologies for the extraction and processing of neologisms (TeresIA project).
  • Support for the Spanish Language and Artificial Intelligence Project (LEIA) to create a language data bank, enriched with contributions from the autonomous communities. Projects underway include AINA (Catalan), GAITU (Basque), NÓS (Galician) and VIVES (Valencian).
  • Related initiatives concern the development of testing and validation of language models through actions led by the Royal Language Academy and the National Observatory on Society and Information Society (ONTSI, project ODESIA).
  • Development of the ALIA language models, which will contribute to developing a GenAI foundation for the implementation of public administration use cases, AI services within the Spanish AI Factory, and the Spanish GenAI ecosystem more broadly.
