Digital tool that allows users to compare telecommunication services prices and characteristics in a simple and friendly way; includes data (GB)/internet speed calculator and chatbot.

Name in original language

Checatuplan (Formerly Known as "Comparatel")

Initiative overview

Comparing prices of telecommunications services offered by different suppliers can be complicated due to the existence of multiple providers, the variety of choices within each provider and among providers, the different price structures among others.OSIPTEL first issued monthly reports comparing mobile plans and their characteristics to keep users informed. Then, COMPARATEL was created, as a tool that offers price comparisons in a friendly way, highlighting the main characteristics of mobile and fixed services (both bundled and unbundled). It is permanently updated with new data. It also offers a speed calculator, to estimate the most suited fixed internet plan for a household, or a data usage calculator, to estimate the best mobile internet plan for a user, according to their usage patterns. On august 2021, it was rebranded as "checatuplan" (a more friendly name). The initiative has the following objectives:To help users make informed decisions when acquiring telecom services so that they can buy the plan that better suits their needs at the best price, thus reducing information asymmetry. To allow mobile internet users to adequately estimate their data needs with a data calculator tool, that takes into account their individual user profile (main type of sites they navigate in, amount of time they navigate, etc.) so that they can change to a suitable mobile plan.To allow wireline internet users to adequately estimate their speed needs according to their household needs (number of members, number of devices connected, etc.) so that they can acquire the best plan for each one or change the one they currently have.
