Initiative overview
The supercomputer project in Slovakia, led by the Slovak Academy of Sciences in collaboration with Eviden and the Atos Group, addresses the growing need for high-performance computing (HPC) in research and public administration. Many scientific, administrative, and industrial tasks require computing power that exceeds what standard systems can provide, and this project seeks to fill that gap.
The main objective is to develop and operate a national HPC infrastructure that is publicly accessible. This system is designed to support advanced simulations, data analysis, and modeling for a wide range of users, including universities, research institutes, public institutions, and private R&D organizations.
The project involves constructing the physical supercomputing facility, installing hardware and software systems, and integrating it into the national HPC network. The Slovak Academy of Sciences provides scientific oversight, Eviden and the Atos Group contribute technical expertise in design, implementation, and operations, and various end-users from academia, government, and industry access the system for computational needs.
