Initiative overview
The Digital Wallonia Strategy on Digital Administration is a comprehensive initiative aimed at transforming Wallonia into a fully digital region by 2024. This strategy focuses on innovating public services, fostering collaboration through open data, and serving as a testing ground for scalable digital solutions. It is structured around five key themes: Digital Uses, Smart Territory, Digital Economy, Digital Innovation, and Digital Administration.
A central component of this strategy is the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance mobility-related services. AI technologies are being applied to improve traffic management and urban planning, aiming to create more efficient, sustainable, and citizen-centric urban environments. For instance, the Smart Region project, launched in 2019 with a budget of EUR 4 million, seeks to propose a new model of governance for Walloon cities to transform them into Smart Cities. This initiative rethinks the experience of public administration offered to citizens.
The DigitalWallonia4.ai programme plays a pivotal role in supporting AI adoption across public organizations. It provides resources and support mechanisms to assist in the digital transformation, enabling the development of AI-driven solutions that address regional challenges.
