Initiative overview

Germany’s BMWK runs the technology programme “Generative AI for SMEs” to help small and medium-sized enterprises adopt generative AI. The aim is to create the conditions for practical use in companies and to demonstrate concrete benefits through real applications. The programme sits under the ministry’s Digitale Technologien portfolio.

By mid-2025, BMWK reported ten funded projects, presented at a programme kick-off event, showcasing how generative AI can make SME processes more efficient and innovative across different domains (e.g., maintenance and production).
