Initiative overview
Greece is participating in the Chips Joint Undertaking (Chips JU), a European programme that supports the development of semiconductor technologies—essential components in electronics like computers, cars, and medical devices. The aim is to reduce Europe’s reliance on imported chips and build stronger local capabilities in research, design, and production.
Through the Key Digital Technologies call, Greece has committed €6 million to support Greek organisations—such as universities, research centres, and companies—that want to take part in EU-funded projects. These projects cover everything from early research to testing and innovation in chip-related technologies. Applications are reviewed both by the EU and Greece’s national funding agency, GSRI.
To boost its role in this sector, Greece has also launched the Hellenic Chips Competence Centre (HCCC). This new hub will provide training, technical support, and access to tools for designing and testing chips. It’s part of a larger EU effort to grow a skilled workforce and support innovation across Europe’s chip industry.
