This initiative aims to interconnect Greek hospitals, enabling doctors to access national electronic health records, streamline healthcare, and reduce bureaucracy by providing mobile access to medical data. An AI-powered NEHF (AI applications' integrated processing of large volumes of diverse data) is expected to improve interconnectivity and interoperability of national healthcare networks and national healthcare databases and provide faster and better justified management decisions.

Initiative overview

Greece has introduced the National Electronic Health File (Ατομικός Ηλεκτρονικός Φάκελος Υγείας – ΑΗΦΥ) as part of a broader digital health reform. The system provides every citizen with a unified electronic record that can be securely updated and accessed across different points of care. Managed through gov.gr, it integrates data from hospitals, primary care units, and pharmacies into a single platform under the oversight of the Ministry of Health. Beyond improving coordination, it also sets the groundwork for advanced data use, including AI-assisted analysis, while ensuring compliance with strict security and privacy rules.
