Initiative overview

The AI Strategy harness the potential of artificial intelligence and is designed to establish a thriving AI ecosystem through strategic investments, support for start-ups, and fostering innovation. The Strategy prioritises the adoption of AI in the public sector and support measures for the adoption of AI in the private sector to improve public services, and promote transparency, ensuring that AI-driven solutions align with societal needs and public interests. This holistic approach positions the public sector as a catalyst for broader AI adoption and development.The Strategy aims to be expansive in nature, looking at the commercial and social impact, areas of economic opportunity and the need for special consideration, where AI use cases potentially intersect with national priorities, values and citizen's rights.Due to societal changes and new technologicla trends, Malta is currently in the process of realigning its National AI Strategy, including AI for society, wellbeing and sustainability.

The MDIA has a dedicated function to provide oversight to provide implementation of the AI strategy. An office on strategy has been developed to realign Malta`s AI strategy and ensure it is up-to-date with international best practices.
