Initiative overview

The Guideline on Artificial Intelligence for the Public Sector (Garis Panduan Artificial Intelligence Sektor Awam) provides a common reference for government agencies in Malaysia to adopt and use artificial intelligence (AI) in a responsible, secure and effective manner. As AI becomes increasingly integrated into public-sector services and operations, the guideline seeks to support agencies in identifying opportunities for AI adoption while addressing associated risks, including those relating to governance, ethics, security, data and accountability.

The Guideline on Artificial Intelligence for the Public Sector aims to strengthen the capacity of public-sector agencies to plan, develop, procure, deploy and manage AI applications in a manner that supports public value and aligns with broader government policies and requirements. It provides practical guidance on key considerations across the AI lifecycle, helping agencies establish appropriate governance, risk management, human oversight and safeguards when implementing AI.

The Guideline forms part of Malaysia’s broader digital government and AI governance landscape and is intended to complement relevant national policies, guidelines, standards and legal requirements. As AI technologies and their applications continue to evolve, the Guideline can be further updated and refined to reflect emerging technologies, risks, standards and government priorities, supporting more consistent and scalable AI adoption across the public sector.
