National Platform of Technologies and Semiconductors
A National Platform of Technologies and Semiconductors has been launched in December 2024 as a priority project aiming to bring together and consolidate the R&D capacities in the area of semiconductors.
EuroHPC JU
Romania participates in the European High-Performance Computing Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU). The Romanian partner is the National Institute for Research and Development in Informatics – ICI Bucharest. Such capacity is primarily used for scientific and research purposes, and the demand for AI-specific uses has grown particularly in recent years and this infrastructure could be further leveraged to support AI start-ups and SMEs.
America's AI Action Plan
The Action Plan sets forth policy goals for near-term execution by the Federal government and articulates policy recommendations in line with the President’s vision for US leadership in AI. It is articulated around three main pillars: innovation, infrastructure, and international diplomacy and security.
AI Competence for Sweden
AI Competence for Sweden is an initiative where ten universities collaborate with the goal to elevate the competence about AI in academia and in industry.
Research Institutes of Sweden (Rise)
RISE combines AI research with interdisciplinary research, a wide range of test beds, inspiring innovation hubs, educational programmes, digital platforms and extensive experience in software. More than 75 AI projects are currently underway at RISE, conducted by over 60 active AI researchers. RISE has established a center for applied AI and possess a wealth of experience in working with practical applications as well as the situations that arise there from.
Guidelines for the use of generative AI in the public administration
The authorities shall develop guidelines with the aim of promoting the effective, safe and ethical use of generative AI in public administration. The guidelines shall serve as guidance and support for the use of generative AI for employees of state authorities, municipalities and regions from a legal, security and ethical perspective. The guidelines will also serve as methodological support and provide guidance for the activities' assessments of whether and how generative AI should be used.
Quantum Spain
Quantum Spain promotes and funds a competitive quantum computing infrastructure to strengthen Spain’s scientific and technological base in quantum computing and its AI applications. It supports the national ecosystem with essential tools and resources. In 2023, Spanish authorities announced that southern Europe’s first quantum computer would be installed in Barcelona.
Language Strategic Project for the Economic Recovery and Transformation
The plan supports AI learning in Spanish and co-official languages and goes beyond AI alone (Presidencia del Gobierno, 2023\[15]). It is partly implemented through the National Plan on Language Technologies, which includes initiatives to advance language technologies and AI in these languages. A key action is the creation of linguistic corpora composed of diverse texts such as novels, plays, film scripts, and press materials, helping train and improve AI language models.
AI Regulatory Sandbox
The AI Regulatory Sandbox, developed in collaboration with the European Commission, is a digital space that seeks to connect competent authorities with AI development companies to jointly define best practices when implementing future European AI regulation, and ensure its application. The AI Sandbox will be implemented by two focus groups and they will work on the publication of initial guidelines. The initiative will include a quality label.
University-Business Chairs on AI
Three ENIA chairs focus on AI and agriculture/rural development: University of Murcia, University of Cordoba, University of Oviedo. Two of the ENIA chairs focus on the intersection between AI and climate and the environment: Sustainability and Decarbonised society (Polytechnic University of Catalunya) and Green Algorithms (University of La Coruña).
Transformation of work because of AI
Analysis of the transformation of the labour market, employment relations, working conditions and organisation, job profiles and jobs in different sectors in Slovenia that have the potential to be replaced or changed as a result of the introduction of AI, including from a gender perspective, over a 10-year period.
Advanced Computing Portugal 2030
ACP.2030 is a science, innovation and growth strategy to foster Advanced Computing in Portugal in the European context, oriented towards building a high-performance computing world-reference network infrastructure. The centre aims to play a crucial role in supporting research and higher education by providing state-of-the-art computing resources. A new 500m² science data centre is being developed for the National Centre for Advanced Computing.
Analysis and prediction of patterns in the utilization of emergency services and medical services
The development of mechanisms to analyze patterns in the utilization of medical services, particularly in emergency services, is relevant to the management of healthcare entities in the National Health Service (SNS). To this end, the use of microdata from medication prescriptions by healthcare professionals from healthcare institutions and medical services is proposed.
R&D programme on data science and AI in Public Administration
The programme was specifically designed and implemented in order to develop and attract talent in projects involving Public Administration organisations. It aims to leverage data science and AI to improve decision-making and public policy.
Govtech Justice AI Project
The Govtech project in the justice sector is part of a broader government initiative under the RRP. This project aims to integrate innovative products and services to enhance the efficiency and agility of justice services. One of the key innovations is an AI-based tool designed to automatically validate documents in nationality application processes. This tool helps streamline the process, reducing the time and effort required for manual validation, and improving overall service delivery.
Amsterdam's AI Register
Amsterdam and Helsinki have launched open AI registers that track how algorithms are being used in the municipalities.
Malta Digital Innovation Authority`s Technology Assurance Sandbox
The Technology Assurance Sandbox managed by the MDIA offers a secure environment for individuals or companies to test solutions based on innovative technologies such as blockchain and AI. The sandbox ensures that solutions meet recognised standards for safety and security.
European Digital Innovation Hub
The European Digital Innovation Hub (EDIH) in Malta is another example which support collaboration and cooperation at an international level. By facilitating networking and collaboration with other EDIHs through the DiHubMT platform, AI opportunities in the public and private sectors will be fostered.
MDIA Applied Research Grant
The Applied Research Grant is an initiative by the MDIA to support capacity-building efforts in AI research in Malta. The grant aims to advance AI research capacity, foster AI R&D investments and promote collaboration between academia and commercial entities. The grant supports projects in various areas, including AI, digital trust, knowledge and data representation, technology for sustainability, quantum computing, and other emerging technologies. Applications for this grant are open annually.
