Following the AI Safety Summit held by the UK in 2023, the AI Seoul Summit contributed to making the AI Summit a leader-level platform for comprehensive discussion on global AI governance.The Seoul Declaration suggests a balanced global AI governance that promotes AI safety while also supporting AI innovation and inclusivity, and received endorsement from global AI leaders, including the G7.

Initiative overview

The Seoul Declaration lays out three concrete priorities of safety, innovation, and inclusivity as the direction of global AI governance, and contributed to achieving a consensus among leaders, digital ministers, and CEOs from home and abroad.The Seoul Declaration, elevated from the 2023 ministerial-level Bletchley Declaration to a leader's level, was adopted by the leaders participating in the Summit to give a momentum to the international community's efforts to establish a governance and norms for AI, while also securing Korea's AI leadership.The Seoul Ministerial Statement was adopted by 28 digital ministers to take concrete steps to advance the vision of the Seoul Declaration through cooperation between developed and developing nations.In response to the Seoul Declaration, 14 Korean and global tech companies signed the Seoul Business Pledge, a voluntary commitment for ensuring responsible development and management of AI and sharing the benefits of AI.
