Initiative overview

Since the launch of ChatGPT in November, 2022, the competition over LLM among global tech giants is fierce; the US, EU, UK and other major players are actively discussing how to shape new norms and ensure safety regarding AI in order to address the technology's potential risks and misuses/abuses. Although Korea is relatively late to the competition, it is fast developing and securing its own LLM, backed by bold corporate ambitions and government support, creating synergies with the country's strengths in semiconductors, platforms and ICT infrastructure. The Korean government is providing support to boost AI application in specialized areas, promote mutual cooperation between large corporates and SMEs, and ensure world-class AI safety and trust so that Korean companies can lead the global market.
