This project implemented will provide a platform and methodology for assessing the progress and maturity of the food ecosystem in its different parts (primary production, processing, distribution and marketing, consumption and waste management). Based on scientific sources and experience, it will identify the criteria needed to determine the level of maturity in the areas of sustainability, health-friendliness and digitalisation/artificial intelligence, creating a platform to assess maturity.

Initiative overview

This project at Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) develops a structured way to assess how food systems are evolving toward sustainability, health, and digitalisation. It creates both a platform and a methodology for measuring maturity across all parts of the food chain, from production to processing, distribution, consumption, and waste management. The framework will be based on scientific literature and practical experience, defining clear criteria for evaluating aspects such as the use of AI, sustainability practices, and health impacts. By doing so, it aims to provide policymakers, businesses, and researchers with a common tool to track progress and identify areas for improvement in building smarter food ecosystems.
