Initiative overview
To achieve these goals, NOLAI schools, companies and scientists work together on these objectives. This happens in two programs: Co-creation programmeThe co-creation program develops smart technologies, together with schools, companies and scientists. This concerns the organization of demand articulation, development and validation of prototypes.Every year, NOLAI starts projects in schools throughout the Netherlands to explore how primary, secondary and special education can be improved in a practical way using smart technology and AI.NOLAI's first project proposals were completed in June 2023, on schedule. The expectation is that the first ten projects began in the 2023-2024 academic year. Fifteen new projects will follow each coming academic year. Academic programmeThe scientific program facilitates the process of co-creation and creates the preconditions necessary for the successful completion of this process. The following focus areas are leading:1. The pedagogical and didactical aspects of AI in education2. The technical aspects of AI in education3. The ethical aspects of AI in education4. The data and technical infrastructure5. Training and professionalising teachers for AI in education Teachers and students are central.'NOLAI believes that the cooperation between people and machines creates opportunities for teachers and students, provided the right combination can be found. More information on this can be found in our reference framework for education and business.Of, for and with schoolsWe ask lots of teachers, school leaders and administrators every year: what is needed? We arrive on creating a clear research question together with academics and businesses. We translate this into concrete project proposals together too. The first classroom projects will start in the 2023-2024 academic year.Organisationally in order.NOLAI is part of Radboud University and located in the Faculty of Social Sciences. The education lab is led by a management team (MT), headed by Inge Molenaar. The MT reports to a steering group, with representatives from education, academia and businesses four times a year. They make up NOLAI's strategic partners. The initiative has the following objectives:NOLAI develops intelligent technology to improve the quality of primary and secondary educationNOLAI reveals the pedagogical, societal and social implications of smart technology in education
