Quantum Spain promotes and funds a competitive quantum computing infrastructure to strengthen Spain’s scientific and technological base in quantum computing and its AI applications. It supports the national ecosystem with essential tools and resources. In 2023, Spanish authorities announced that southern Europe’s first quantum computer would be installed in Barcelona.
Initiative overview
The aim is to address the reinforcement in the quantum field envisaged in ENIA Action Line N. 15, through the implementation of a cooperative project financed through the direct award of grants to a grouping of entities belonging to the Spanish Supercomputing Network "RES", for the creation of an IA quantum computing ecosystem. The initiative has the following objectives:Create a high-performance quantum computer and make it accesible to the scientific communityCreate a remote cloud access service to the quantum processor, to enable industry and the public sector to experiment with the new quantum algorithmsDevelop libraries of quantum algorithms and Quantum Machine Learning, applicable to real problems, for end users in both companies and public entities
