Programa "Ciência+Formação"
Initiative overview
The Science+Training Programme is part of Portugal's broader strategy to bolster its research and innovation landscape. Implemented by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), this programme is designed to:
- Support basic research by providing funding to higher education institutions.
- Promote knowledge transfer between academia and industry to foster innovation.
- Reduce researcher precariousness by offering stable career opportunities.
- Strengthen the link between companies and society, ensuring that research outcomes contribute to societal development.
A significant component of the programme is the FCT-Tenure Programme, which aims to stabilize scientific careers by offering permanent positions to PhD researchers. In its first edition (2024), the programme co-financed the hiring of up to 1,000 PhD researchers for permanent positions, with an additional 400 positions expected in the second edition (2026) dp.tecnico.ulisboa.pt+1.
Another key initiative is the ERC-Portugal Programme, which supports Portuguese researchers in participating in the European Research Council (ERC) funding schemes.
