Initiative overview
The main objective of this project is to speed up the responsible use of AI in urban life by connecting developers with real infrastructure and data. The Lab reduces risk for both companies and public bodies while ensuring innovation is shaped by real city needs.
The initiative offers both virtual and physical testbeds. Virtual tools include Tampere’s IoT platform with sensor data, analytics, and development toolkits. Physical environments include Hervanta for autonomous vehicles, Tyyppaamo for energy and building systems, and the Nokia Arena for event-related solutions. Alongside access to these facilities, the Lab provides project support, partnerships, and guidance on intellectual property.
Tampere City Lab is also part of the EU-wide Citcom.ai network, which links similar testing facilities across Europe and enables shared learning and collaboration.
