Initiative overview

The European Digital Innovation Hubs (EDIHs) in Slovakia are part of the EU-wide initiative under the Digital Europe Programme that helps businesses and public sector organisations accelerate digital transformation. In Slovakia, these hubs provide test-before-invest services, training, and access to expertise, with a focus on artificial intelligence and other advanced technologies. The Ministry of Investment, Regional Development, and Informatization of the Slovak Republic oversees their implementation and launch.

The Slovak EDIHs include:

  • HealthHub – Centre of Innovative Health Care: Supports hospitals and healthcare facilities in digital transformation and innovation.
  • Cassovium: Creates a unique platform for the implementation and development of digital technologies in Eastern Slovakia.
  • Expandi 4.0: Assists SMEs in digital transformation by guiding them through innovation processes and developing the skills needed for success.
  • Hopero: Helps companies and public institutions prepare and implement AI projects, secure funding, and connect with innovators in Slovakia’s ecosystem.
  • SCDI (Slovak Centre of Digital Innovations): Focuses on SME digitalisation with emphasis on environmental sustainability, workforce development, and the digital technology industry.
  • KInIT (Kempelen Institute of Intelligent Technologies): An independent, non-profit institute that advances research in AI and computer science, bridging expertise across public and private sectors.

Together, these hubs play a crucial role in:

  • Supporting SMEs and public organisations in adopting AI and digital tools.
  • Strengthening Slovakia’s innovation ecosystem by linking research, industry, and government.
  • Improving competitiveness and resilience across sectors, including healthcare, manufacturing, and public services.
  • Building skills and training for digital and AI adoption.

Looking forward, the Slovak EDIHs are expected to expand their services, strengthen international cooperation within the EU-wide network of hubs, and contribute to making Slovakia more competitive and innovative in the digital age.
