In September 2023, Portugal’s most powerful supercomputer, Deucalion, was installed at the University of Minho. Capable of ten petaflops, Deucalion has expanded Portugal's HPC capacity tenfold. It enables advanced simulations and modelling across a wide range of scientific fields, including personalised medicine, drug and material design, environmental monitoring, climate change mitigation, and the development of of smart cities and autonomous vehicles.

Deucalion is Portugal’s most powerful supercomputer, inaugurated in September 2023 as part of the European High-Performance Computing Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU). Located at the University of Minho, it is designed to support advanced research in fields such as climate modeling, artificial intelligence, and biomedical sciences. Deucalion combines cutting-edge CPU and GPU technologies to deliver high computational performance while maintaining energy efficiency, contributing to Europe's strategic autonomy in digital and scientific innovation.
