Initiative overview

In January 2024, Denmark updated its Preparatory Adult Education (FVU) curricula to include a focus on digital problem solving, with specific attention to generative AI. The initiative addresses the need to equip adults, particularly low-skilled learners, with practical digital skills that are increasingly relevant in daily life, work, and study.

The curriculum aims to help students:

  • Understand generative AI and its basic concepts.
  • Recognize practical applications of AI in personal and professional contexts.
  • Identify possibilities and limitations of AI tools for solving everyday tasks.
  • Apply AI tools to tasks related to employment, further education, or private life.

While the main target group remains low-skilled adults, the educational offer has been expanded to a broader audience. This ensures more learners have access to essential digital skills that support employability and personal development.

The initiative also reflects a broader trend in adult education towards integrating digital literacy and AI awareness into foundational programmes. Over time, the curriculum is expected to evolve, incorporating more interactive tools, practical exercises, and guidance to help learners effectively navigate AI technologies in their personal and professional lives.
