Initiative overview
In Czechia, the Operation Programme Research, Development and Education (OP VVV) is the largest state-funded initiative supporting artificial intelligence. It was launched to address a key challenge: many AI projects lack stable funding to move from research ideas to practical applications. By providing long-term support, the programme helps promising initiatives grow and strengthens the country’s capacity in this field.
The programme’s main aim is to foster AI innovation in both academic and applied settings. So far, it has supported 23 projects, ranging from fundamental research on algorithms to practical applications in areas such as health, manufacturing, and public services. This breadth ensures that AI development is not limited to a single sector but contributes to Czechia’s wider innovation ecosystem.
OP VVV works by funding projects led by universities, research institutes, and industry partners. Grants cover staffing, equipment, and infrastructure, while also encouraging collaboration and knowledge sharing across institutions. The programme is expected to expand its reach and strengthen ties with European AI initiatives, making Czech research more connected and internationally competitive.
