FARI Institute

European Digital Innovation Hub (EDIH) Brussels
The EDIH in Brussels supports SMEs in sustainable digital innovation using AI and emerging technologies. It aims to strengthen the digital capabilities of Brussels' industrial landscape, comprising predominantly SMEs. Strategic goals include economic, social, and environmental transitions and post-COVID recovery. The hub is implemented by Agoria, Sirris, BeCentral, Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB), and VUB, providing services to over 1,500 companies.
Flanders AI-EDIH
The Flanders AI European Digital Innovation Hub (EDIH) aims to accelerate AI adoption among SMEs by offering a neutral, integrated, and accessible service ecosystem.
AI Fund
Established under FPS BOSA, the AI Fund supports applied AI research in domains prioritised by the National Convergence Plan, including health, cybersecurity, and AI development.

Flemish participation in EuroHPC infrastructure projects
Flanders participates in the EuroHPC LUMI supercomputing consortium to provide researchers with access to world-class Tier 0 supercomputing. This enables advanced AI, data science, and simulation-based research. Participation also allows Belgium to benefit from expertise sharing and cost-efficient access to Europe’s most powerful supercomputers.
Flemish AI Academy
The Flemish AI Academy (VAIA) provides education and training in AI for researchers, professionals, and entrepreneurs. It coordinates AI learning opportunities across Flemish universities and research institutions. VAIA also identifies gaps in AI training and develops new courses to address them.
AI Usage in the Flemish Public Employment Service (VDAB)
The Adoption and Exploitation of AI in Agriculture programme supports the use of AI-driven automation in agriculture and industry. It funds R&D projects, including EU-supported initiatives, to promote digitalisation in agriculture and food sectors. The initiative aims to increase efficiency and innovation in farming and agri-food operations.
A Land for Tomorrow
This Federal Government initiative collects proposals from citizens and experts on government reform and democracy development. AI processes and analyses these ideas to generate insights for policymaking, culminating in a public report.
AI for Intelligent Image Analysis
In Flemish policymaking, AI is used for intelligent image recognition to support mobility and environmental efforts. Applications include traffic analysis, congestion prediction, and salting actions on highways. Other uses comprise flood mapping, agricultural monitoring, and soil sealing detection.
