Establishing a pro-innovation approach to regulating AI
The UK initiative “Establishing a pro-innovation approach to regulating AI” outlines an emerging framework to regulate AI through a context-specific, risk-based and proportionate approach. It proposes cross-sector principles implemented by existing regulators to promote innovation, boost public trust and ensure safety.
Data (Use and Access) Act 2025
The Data (Use and Access) Act 2025, enacted on 19 June 2025 by the UK Parliament, establishes a broad legislative framework governing data access, privacy, and digital services. It covers customer and business data access, personal data processing, electronic communications, health and social care information standards, biometric data retention, trust services, and provisions relating to copyright and the development of artificial intelligence systems.
Guidelines for AI Procurement
Published on 8 June 2020 by the UK Office for Artificial Intelligence, the Guidelines for AI Procurement provide central government departments with guiding principles for procuring AI technologies. Developed with the World Economic Forum, Government Digital Service, and Crown Commercial Service, they cover the end-to-end procurement process, including data governance, impact assessment, market engagement, ethical deployment, and lifecycle management.
AI Research Resource (AIRR)
The AI Research Resource (AIRR) is a UK government initiative providing AI-specialised high-performance computing capacity to public researchers, academia, and small and medium-sized enterprises. Announced as part of the AI Opportunities Action Plan in January 2025, the government committed £1 billion to expand AIRR capacity by at least 20x by 2030. The programme operates through two compute clusters — Isambard-AI at the University of Bristol and Dawn at the University of Cambridge.

The Action Plan will consider how the UK can:(a) Build an AI sector that can scale and be competitive globally.(b) Adopt AI to enhance growth and productivity, and support delivery of the government's five stated missions.(c) Use AI in government to transform citizens' experiences of interacting with the state and boosting take-up in the wider economy.(d) Strengthen the enablers of AI adoption, such as data, infrastructure, public procurement processes and policy, and regulatory reforms.
Assuring a Responsible Future for AI
This report combines analysis from a large-scale industry survey, deep-dive interviews with industry experts, focus groups with members of the public and an economic analysis to reflect on the state of the UK AI assurance market. It surveys the market and its future potential, and sets out targeted actions the government is taking - both to maximise assurance market growth and ensure the safe and equitable development and deployment of AI in Britain.
