Initiative overview

Digital Research Centre Denmark (DIREC) was created to strengthen Denmark’s position in digital technologies such as AI, big data, IoT, and cybersecurity. Many advanced digital tools are still developed abroad, and Denmark risks falling behind if it does not invest in its own research capacity. DIREC addresses this by uniting universities, companies, and public institutions to develop new knowledge and practical solutions, while also ensuring that digital innovation reflects Danish values and priorities.

The centre is a non-profit partnership of eight Danish universities and the Alexandra Institute. It funds and coordinates projects where researchers and industry work together on concrete challenges, from safer digital infrastructures to smarter health technologies. Since 2020, DIREC has expanded to dozens of projects and more than fifty partners.
