The program funds solutions that use AI to help solve environmental challenges and promote opportunities to use AI strategically for Environmental and climate protection (for example in the fields of energy efficiency, resource efficiency, protection of biodiversity, nature conservation, species protection, water management, sustainable consumption or eco-friendly mobility). For example, AI can be used to derive recommendations for climate-friendly forest reconstruction, to control industrial processes in a more environmentally friendly way, to combat weeds in fields according to demand and thereby protect biodiversity, or to predict and sustainably reduce nitrate in groundwater. The funding program was published in August 2019. The focus is on research and development projects that are application-oriented. The projects can be funded for a period of three years with a maximum funding amount of 3 million euros.
