Initiative overview
Research today generates large amounts of data that need to be carefully managed to ensure quality, transparency, and usefulness. Without clear guidelines, researchers and institutions can struggle to store, organize, and share their data properly. To tackle this, Denmark created a National Strategy for Research Data Management, and DeiC leads the effort to put this strategy into practice.
The strategy targets research institutions like universities and the organizations that fund research. Its main goal is to promote better data management so that research data becomes easier to find, access, and reuse. This aligns with the FAIR principles—making data Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable—which help improve the transparency and impact of Danish research.
DeiC coordinates the work by collaborating with universities, funders, and other partners to develop tools, guidelines, and funding methods that encourage good data management. It supports training, sets standards, and helps build systems to store and share data securely. This national effort ensures that researchers across Denmark follow common practices, making research data a valuable shared resource.
