Initiative overview

Medical technology plays an indispensable role in healthcare. The German medical technology sector is primarily made up of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), which account for over 90% of the companies in the field. These SMEs are the innovative backbone of the industry, operating in a highly dynamic environment and under stringent regulatory requirements for medical products, which significantly increase the investment risks in research and development. The BMBF supports SMEs to strengthen the competitive position of the German medical technology sector.
