Initiative overview

As artificial intelligence continues to develop rapidly, having access to powerful computing resources is essential for researchers aiming to push the boundaries of AI. To meet this need, Denmark began collaborating with NVIDIA in 2024 to create the Centre for AI Innovation. This new centre will host Gefion, one of the world’s most powerful AI supercomputers, designed to support large-scale AI projects. This initiative addresses the challenge of providing Danish researchers from both public institutions and private companies with advanced tools and infrastructure necessary for innovative AI work.

The primary objective of this collaboration is to offer widespread access to state-of-the-art AI computing power, along with software platforms, training, and expert support. Gefion will enable users to work with extensive datasets, develop sophisticated AI models, and explore new applications that require significant processing capabilities. The centre aims to accelerate AI research and development across Denmark by equipping researchers with the resources and knowledge needed to succeed.

The centre brings together stakeholders from Denmark’s public research sector, private industry, and technology partners. NVIDIA provides the supercomputing technology and technical expertise, while Danish universities, research institutions, and companies contribute projects, data, and skilled researchers. This partnership creates a collaborative environment that promotes knowledge sharing and innovation within Denmark’s AI community.

Since its launch, the centre is expected to grow both in capacity and influence. As more researchers and organizations utilize Gefion and the related services, Denmark plans to expand training programs, software tools, and support services to keep pace with evolving AI demands. This growth will help maintain Denmark’s position as a leading country in AI research and innovation.
