Digital Transformation of Robotic Factories of the Future DIGITOP
The DIGITOP programme helps manufacturing companies adopt advanced digital technologies, including AI, robotics, and Industry 4.0/5.0 solutions. It supports automation and optimisation of production processes through research and innovation projects. The initiative aims to strengthen digital transformation and strategic autonomy in Slovenia’s manufacturing sector.
Pilot projects to enhance energy efficiency and the enhancement of the use of renewables in the economy
Slovenia has launched pilot projects to improve energy efficiency and increase the use of renewable energy in the economy. These projects use advanced digital technologies, including AI, to make business processes more sustainable. Key initiatives include a peer-to-peer renewables marketplace, emissions monitoring, and digital solutions for circular construction.
HIDRA
The HIDRA system in Slovenia uses deep neural networks to forecast sea levels and coastal floods. It helps improve early warning systems and supports climate resilience.
SMASH – Machine learning in climate
The SMASH – Machine Learning in Climate Research project in Slovenia develops AI solutions to better understand and predict climate and atmospheric processes. Research areas include extreme weather events, aerosols, air pollution sources, and long-term climate prediction. The project runs from 2023 to 2028 and applies machine learning to support climate science and policy.
eHealth Strategy
The project aims to develop an eHealth Strategy and Investment Plan that will outline the objectives and priorities for the development of eHealth in Slovenia for the period 2022-2027. It details the introduction of a single electronic health record (eHealth Record) and the creation of a national telehealth framework and the amendment of related legislation to enable better oversight of the eHealth system and to streamline the flow of data for better patient care and informed policymaking.
Bled Institute for Leadership in Digital Transformation and Artificial Intelligence (BILDAI)
The Bled Institute for Leadership in Digital Transformation and AI (BILDAI), established by the IEDC-Bled School of Management in collaboration with Roche Slovenia, is dedicated to unlocking the transformative potential of artificial intelligence and digitalisation. BILDAI's primary mission is to cultivate leaders who are not only prepared to navigate the challenges of this new era but also empowered to shape its future.
eHealth Strategy for a Healthier Society
This project will elaborate a way to implement a unified electronic health record, as well as design a national telemedicine framework and revise the legislation to enable better oversight of the eHealth system and to streamline data flows for better patient care and informed policy making.
Supporting Health Data Access Bodies in Slovenia (SI-SUD)
The National Institute for Public Health started this project with the objective of enabling secondary use of data by developing four digital capabilities: Data Access Management System, National Metadata Catalogue, Secure Processing Environment and Quality labelling.
Slovenian national strategy in semiconductor technologies and chips until 2030
The strategy is being conducted under the auspices of the Ministry of Digital Transformation in association with two other ministries – the Ministry of Economy, Tourism and Sport, and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation.
IPCEI-CIS project on Cloud Edge
The first Important Project of Common European Interest on cloud and edge computing, this project targets the development of the first interoperable and openly accessible European data processing ecosystem, the multi-provider cloud to edge continuum. It will develop data processing capabilities, and software and data sharing tools that enable federated, energy-efficient and trustworthy cloud and edge distributed data processing technologies and related services.
Establishment of Edge nodes indicators
Slovenia is in the process of establishing indicator Edge nodes, in accordance with Article 5(1) of the Decision (EU) 2022/2481 in collaboration with the Agency of communication networks and services of the Republic of Slovenia.

Support for Slovenian companies involved in IPCEI ME/CT
This measure of the Ministry of the Economy, Tourism and Sport aims at supporting companies involved in the important project of common European interest in microelectronics and communication technologies (IPCEI ME/CT) in carrying out R&D activities, including the first industrial deployment of pilot solutions, in the framework of R&D projects in the field of microelectronics, semiconductors, microchips and communication technologies.
Slovenian national Competence centre for chips and semiconductors, and other support as part of the Chips Joint Undertaking (Chips JU)
As part of the European Chips Joint Undertaking, Slovenia envisages the establishment of a consortium of public RTOs, which will manage the role of the Competence Centre for chips and semiconductors, to be located at the University of Maribor’s Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (FERI UM).
DRO Next
The project "Establishment of Next-Generation Information Infrastructure (DRO Next)" focuses on developing advanced digital infrastructure that will enhance the capabilities for data management and processing at the edge, facilitating the use of edge computing technologies across various sectors, aiming to upgrade the current governmental private cloud.
Data centres in Arnes
The construction of the data centre in Maribor, spearheaded by the Academic and Research Network of Slovenia (ARNES) is underway, implementing a 2023 action plan for open science, implementing “Measure 6.2: Open science to improve the quality, efficiency and responsiveness of research” within the Resolution on the Scientific Research and Innovation Strategy of Slovenia 2030 (ReZrIS30).
National Competence Centre SLING
The National Competence Centre SLING helps users and in using High Performance Computing (HPC) to learn, access, use and learn about supercomputing.
Pladenj (System for Standardized Execution of Electronic Data Queries)
In December 2023, the platform Pladenj, a common central data exchange platform to facilitate seamless data and document exchange across many diverse systems and life events within the public administration, which since 2018 employs advanced AI machine learning techniques (to distribute network traffic for rush hour events between the application servers and their visitors), was upgraded to support cross-border exchanges in alignment with the EU Single Digital Gateway Regulation.
Use of AI in Business Intelligence System - Skrinja
The Ministry of Digital Transformation is planning to introduce AI-based predictive analytics into the Business intelligence system Skrinja (‘box’), which is used by different public authorities to analyse data about their policy area, like public sector salaries, public tenders and administrative procedures, supporting data-driven decisions in real time in public administration.
