SME: Digital and Denmark’s Export and Investment fund (EIFO) digitalisation support for small businesses
Support to SMEs through grants, mainly for the purchase of private advice to identify digitalisation potential (including an AI-dedicated strand) or advice on implementation. Other support measures include subsidies for investments; skills and management development; and guidance on digital development. In addition, since May 2023, the EIFO facilitates access to financing for smaller Danish companies for digitalisation.
Digital Research Centre Denmark (DIREC)
DIREC’s research spans ten areas in advanced digital technology. It aims to develop and support research in AI, big data, IoT, and IT Security.
Secure platform for developing transparent Danish language models
This platform for developing and training language models will be established for Danish companies and authorities to freely access and use and further develop Danish language models for their own contexts. The initiative will be run under the auspices of the Danish Foundations Models – a collaboration between Aarhus University, the University of Southern Denmark, the University of Copenhagen and the Alexandra Institute on research-based development of language models.
Centre for Artificial Intelligence in Society
The Danish government establish an interdisciplinary centre for research and advice on using AI in society. The centre will work closely with the Pioneer Centre for Artificial Intelligence. The centre will serve as a single point of access to knowledge and advice on how authorities and companies can best use AI in practice and will also conduct independent research and practice-oriented evaluation and monitoring of generative AI.
National center for AI innovation
Denmark has started collaborating with NVIDIA in 2024 to establish the centre for AI innovation that will host one of the world’s most powerful AI supercomputers (Gefion). Researchers from Denmark’s public and private sectors will gain access to a state-of-the-art supercomputer optimised for large-scale projects using AI as well as software platforms, training, and expertise (Novo Nordisk Foundation, 2024).
National Strategy for Research Data Management
DeiC is also leading the work to implement the National Strategy for Research Data Management. The strategy targets research institutions and research funding organisations. It defines several principles and areas of action to strengthen the dissemination and financing of good data management practices, resulting in more FAIR research data (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) in Denmark.
GovCloud
Cloud service for governmental bodies hosted by the Danish Agency for Governmental IT Services (SIT) on the platform https://www.dmi.dk/frie-data, which is delivered as community cloud for SIT customers and offers data hosting on Danish territory. Used for distributing open meteorological data and for the National Data Portal among others.
Danish Data Portal
www.datavejviser.dk aims at enabling access to available data from the public sector and engaging in dialogue with users on their demand for further access to data so that future investments in quality and availability of public sector data is demand-driven.
Digital Task Force for AI
To accelerate the roll-out of AI in the public sector, the government, together with Local Government Denmark and Danish Regions, have established a Digital Taskforce for Artificial Intelligence. The Task force shall promote a structured and coordinated initiative to to identify and address barriers to the use of AI and promote large-scale deployment of AI solutions across the public sector.
Pioneer Centre for Artificial Intelligence
The Pioneer Centre for Artificial Intelligence supports top-level research to develop AI that benefits people and society. It brings together leading Danish universities and foundations to explore both technical and ethical aspects of AI. The centre aims to solve real-world challenges through responsible and innovative AI research.
Regulatory Sandbox for AI
Denmark's Regulatory Sandbox for AI helps businesses and public authorities develop AI projects by offering expert advice on data protection and AI rules. It aims to support safe and legal AI use while speeding up project development. This initiative reduces uncertainty about laws, helping more AI solutions reach the market responsibly. Part of the Danish strategy for digitalisation, the sandbox is open to public and private organisations.
Independent Research Fund Denmark
Independent Research Fund Denmark supports AI research through a new funding call in 2025, with a focus on responsible and ethical use of AI. The initiative funds projects based on researchers' own ideas and promotes scientific progress across all fields. It aims to strengthen Denmark's position in AI by encouraging high-quality, independent research.
SME:DIGITAL
A co-ordinated scheme to support the digital transformation of Danish SMEs, which can benefit their ability to innovate in AI.
Digital Platform SPROGTEKNOLOGI.DK
A joint public sector collaboration was initiated to develop a Common Danish language resource.
Danish Road Directorate
The Danish Road Directorate has been amended to take into account driverless cars. According to the amended Act, any company that wishes to carry out testing with self-driving cars must apply to the Ministry of Transportation for a permit.
Innovation Fund Denmark
Innovation Fund Denmark supports research and innovation projects to help businesses and institutions develop new technologies, including AI. In 2024, it dedicated 100 million DKK to AI projects to boost growth and solve important challenges. This initiative helps create smarter solutions that benefit society and the economy.
Danish Data Ethics Council
In 2019, the Danish government launched an independent Data Ethics Council.
